Your role in our team:
Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate will be a senior and key addition to the Finance team. This role will be responsible for the smooth running of the financial reporting of the business, developing and improving the governance framework, and efficient financial processes for the rapidly growing business, as well as playing a key role as a leader within the finance team.
The expectation is that this role works not only with the Finance team but also with the wider business. This role will be expected to introduce appropriate governance processes and improve overall financial reporting transparency across the company.
This role is ideal for someone who wants a broad and wide-reaching finance role, requiring both technical expertise and honed communication skills. The preferred candidate will be experienced, able to adapt to change, and someone who enjoys working in a dynamic fast-paced environment. This role will suit someone with a strong work ethic who is looking to make an immediate impact on an exciting growth-stage company.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
* Lead, mentor, and develop the Financial Reporting team and Finance Business Partners to achieve personal and departmental objectives.
* Foster a high-performance culture within the team, promoting professional growth and development.
* Advocate a proactive and collaborative approach to business partnering across all areas of the company; work with stakeholders to help them and their teams understand the impact they have on business performance.
Financial Reporting & Control:
* Own and run the month-end process, produce management accounts (P&L, cashflow, balance sheet, budget variances) for our leadership team and board reporting. Key deliverables include monthly management accounts with associated financial commentary and the production of relevant board materials (slides and talking points).
* Ownership of the regular reporting to our investor base and compliance with funding reporting requirements.
* Ownership of the production of financial statements and smooth running of external audit; management of audit and accounting external relationships.
* Maintain and enhance internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Financial Budgeting & Forecasting:
* Ownership of the annual financial budgeting process and work with department heads to prepare detailed annual budgets and financial forecasts.
* Monitor financial performance against the budget and forecast, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions as needed.
* Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, including long-term financial planning.
Taxation / Company Secretarial:
* Co-ordinate with our tax advisers to ensure full compliance across our regulatory responsibilities across multiple jurisdictions, including Corporation Tax filings and VAT returns for the UK.
* Ownership of our US Sales Tax responsibilities, including liaising with our 3rd party provider (Avalara) and managing return reviews through the AvaTax portal.
* Liaison with the relevant tax authorities (e.g., HMRC) as the main business contact.
* Co-ordinate Company Secretarial processes, including the opening of new bank accounts and communication with the relevant regulatory authorities.
Ad-Hoc Financial Analysis:
* Conduct detailed financial analysis on strategic initiatives, including new product launches, pricing strategies, and M&A opportunities.
* Provide insightful commentary on business performance and recommend ways to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise:
* Strong academic record. Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA - 1st time passes preferred) would be highly beneficial.
* Proven success working within a Financial Controllership role and ability to demonstrate implementation of improvements within a maturing internal control environment in a fast-growing business.
* Strong technical accounting knowledge, ability to drive key accounting cycles processes, and management experience alongside evidence of implementing business and process change.
* Excellent analytical, communication, and influencing skills (both written and oral), preferably with commercial exposure in previous roles.
* Strong track record of team leadership: prior experience in management of teams and ability to show development of individuals.
* Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Proven self-starter with experience of being able to work independently, juggling and prioritising workloads and consistently meeting deadlines.
* Appreciation of the importance of a robust financial control environment and governance processes with an up-to-date knowledge of key accounting policies relevant to Exclaimer.
* Experience with financial management and statutory accounts reporting.
* Advanced knowledge of Excel with experience of manipulating large datasets and modelling skills (pivot tables, filtering, lookups, etc.).
* Prior experience of working in a comparable high-velocity technology business (SaaS, Fintech), ideally PE backed.
* Netsuite experience preferable but not essential.
