About the Opportunity
As the Hubspot Associate, you will play a pivotal role in developing initiatives to boost our company’s sales and overall growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up the business development function for our startup by managing the company’s CRM on Hubspot, including creating prospecting lists, defining territories, identifying new markets and channels, writing emails for cold outreach, and eventually doing some cold outreach to qualify leads. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in business development within a dynamic startup environment.

* Commitment of 2-3 hours per day.

Working with the Directors, your volunteer role responsibilities include establishing the business development function for our startup including:
1. Setup CRM (Hubspot)
* CRM Management: Set up, maintain and update Hubspot with accurate and detailed information about leads, contacts, and opportunities.
* Contact list segmentation: Upload existing contact list and segment contacts based on country, industry, company size.
2. Marketing and Sales Automation (Hubspot Workflows)
* Setup Marketing Sequence Development: Create and manage automated email sequences designed to engage and convert potential clients.
* Setup Cold Outreach: Design and execute targeted cold outreach campaigns via email and other digital channels to generate new business opportunities.
* Response Management: Monitor and manage responses to outreach efforts, ensuring timely and effective follow-up.
* Follow-Up: Setup follow-up workflows with potential clients to nurture relationships and move them through the sales funnel (e.g. re-engaging old leads through automated reminders).
3. Prospective Lead – Market Research and Analysis
* Market Trends Monitoring: Continuously track and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify potential business opportunities.
* Customer Profiling: Develop detailed profiles of target customers, including their needs, preferences, and buying behavior, defining territories, and identifying new markets and channels.
* Lead Qualification: Evaluate and qualify leads based on predefined criteria to ensure they align with the company’s target market and business goals.
* Data Analysis: Utilize data analysis tools to interpret sales data, market research, and industry reports to support strategic decision-making.
4. Sales and Marketing Support
* Sales Strategy Implementation and Campaigns: Assist in developing and implementing sales strategies and plans to achieve business development goals.
* Proposal and Presentation Preparation: Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations, and pitches to potential clients.
* Performance Tracking: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of sales and marketing activities, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
5. Performing other related duties as assigned and providing timely updates to Directors and team through project deliverables and participation in operational periodic meetings.
Education and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, or related field (desirable).
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in business development, sales or related field.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
* Experience setting up and using Hubspot is essential.
* Proficiency in MS Office and relevant software.

* Professionalism and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to maintain data integrity and handle confidential information with discretion and maintain high levels of professionalism and integrity.
* Flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and situations.
* Availability to commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week.
* Being based in Africa (available during East Africa working hours).
Acquired Experience and Skills
The Hubspot Associate Volunteer will have the opportunity to be responsible for finding and qualifying potential leads, contacts, and opportunities for a startup. You’ll apply your creativity and innovation skills to generate new ideas for business development opportunities, maintain a CRM and develop problem-solving and decision-making skills related to business development. You will practice working remotely while collaborating with a small, dynamic team. By contributing to the success of an early-stage African tech startup, the volunteer will also build their professional network and potentially open up future career opportunities.
