Maintenance Assistant

Job overview
To work as part of a managed team. Work to be of both complex and non-complex nature, responsible for minor repairs and routine planned preventative maintenance activities, as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures and taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
Main duties of the job
* Assist other team members in carrying out repairs and assists Tradesperson who are undertaking mechanical/electrical installations and/or enabling works, associated with steam and high/Medium pressure systems.
* Actively participate in the operation of the Trust's labour control scheme by working within the scheme including completion of all paperwork required of the scheme. (Including completion of all job dockets and timesheets).
* Work in accordance with the requirements of the Trust on low pressure hot water systems, performing both complex and non-complex tasks and following the instructions of Supervisor at all times.
* Work in accordance with the requirements of the Trust to undertake minor fault finding with regard to electrical systems and equipment.
* Liaise with the Maintenance Supervisor regarding planned or equipment failures.
* Complete all report sheets as required.
* Drive Trust vehicles as appropriate.
* Use all relevant tools (e.g. screwdrivers) and equipment necessary for the completion of work within safety guidelines.
* Carry out any other work as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor to individual skill level.
* Report adverse incidents through the Trust incident report system.
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance on complex Thermostatic Mixing Valves, to include strip down and repair. (Requiring the use of fine tools).
* Assist team with safe lift release of passengers.

Qualifications
* GCSE in Maths and English (A-C/4-9) or Functional Skills (level 2).
* City & Guilds relevant course or relevant experience in a Hospital Estates environment with engineering training.
Knowledge
* Adaptable to change.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital environment.
Experience
* First aid knowledge especially electric shock treatment.
* Health and Safety Training.
* Knowledge of carrying out planned preventative maintenance on electrical/mechanical systems.
* Basic plumbing skills.
* Basic electrical awareness.
