Working a set pattern of four days on four days off (Days only). Responsible for the daily supervision and the efficient and effective delivery of the portering service to the standards set by the Foundation Trust. This is through the daily compilation of duty rotas and the efficient distribution of staffing resources to all areas as required. The post holder will need to ensure effective communications are maintained between the portering service, its staff, and patients; leading by example to motivate the team in delivering quality standards. To ensure all staff know their duties and have the sufficient skills, training, and materials to complete these to a high standard within their allocated areas. To be one of the portering numbers on the 'shop floor'; monitoring departments and areas serviced by the porter department; ensuring the efficient delivery of duties to the agreed quality standards and in accordance with Standard Operational Procedures.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage and approve staff annual leave and other types of leave (e.g. special leave, paternity leave, maternity leave, etc.) in accordance with the Department's protocols and Trust policies.
2. Ensure that all staff absences or attendance alterations are recorded accurately to ensure staff are paid correctly and any sickness is managed in a timely manner.
3. Work within NHS Standard Financial Instructions and ensure spend on Bank staff is authorised correctly and within delegated limits.
4. Complete return-to-work interviews for staff returning from sick leave in accordance with the Trust's attendance management policy; including, where appropriate, rehabilitation back into the workplace.
5. Ensure all development appraisal interviews are undertaken annually with any personal development needs recorded and progressed.
6. Support the training of staff in the specific role and duties expected. Regularly review the ability and performance of staff to agreed standard and re-train as and when appropriate.
7. Undertake the training of staff as part of the porter department induction; covering all necessary protocols and health & safety training. Organise the attendance of staff to other training sessions including manual handling, mortuary training, fire training, security, and Infection Control. Provide records of attendance and arrange refresher sessions in a timely manner.
