Malesupport Assistant - SEMH
I am recruiting for an experienced Male Support Assistant to work full time in a long-term temporary position starting in the Kidderminster area. You will be working on a one-to-one basis with a vulnerable child on the at-risk register in Key Stage Two, who presents with emotional dysregulation and complex social needs. It is important to be passionate about working with children and truly want to make a difference in their lives. This role would suit someone with a solid commitment, resilience, and enthusiasm in overcoming challenges. Job Description:
1. Support the pupil in promoting bespoke individualised learning.
2. Provide clarity by explaining activities for the day.
3. Motivate and encourage the learner through child-led therapy play, reassuring and supporting with tasks as appropriate to their needs.
4. Assist in weaker areas of the learner's development: speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, etc.
5. Use praise and a nurturing approach to encourage the learner to stay on task.
6. Effectively and consistently implement the unit's behaviour management strategies.
7. Help to make appropriate resources to support the learner.
8. Establish a supportive relationship with the learner.
9. Monitor the learner's response to activities through record keeping.
10. Support the learner in developing social skills.
11. Apply positive handling techniques where appropriate.
Job Specification:
1. Minimum Level Two Teaching Assistant qualification or at least 6 months experience working with children with SEND.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Team Teach de-escalation training is an advantage but not essential.
4. Proactive and adaptable to the learner's needs.
