Structural Civil Engineer
Salary: £75,000 - £95,000
About the Role:
Due to significant project growth, we are seeking a skilled Structural Civil Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in civil and structural engineering, specifically in structural design and analysis. This role involves the design, planning, and oversight of various infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet engineering, quality, and regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Structural Design: Design and analyze structures including bridges, buildings, foundations, and other infrastructure projects, using engineering principles and software tools. Experience with Eurocodes and British Standards is advantageous.
2. Design Project Coordination: Develop and manage project design plans, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Manage sub-consultants when necessary, and lead/attend multidisciplinary engineering meetings for coordination through design stages.
3. Technical Calculations: Perform structural calculations, simulations, and analyses to ensure the integrity and performance of structures under various load cases, in alignment with utility specifications and client standards.
4. Regulatory & Technical Compliance: Ensure all designs meet relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards. Obtain necessary permits and approvals as needed, and work with project architects, planning consultants, and stakeholders for technical approvals.
5. Collaboration: Coordinate with Electrical Engineering teams, construction teams, and stakeholders to address project requirements, design challenges, and technical issues.
6. Site Inspections: Conduct site visits to inspect construction progress and structural integrity. Provide technical guidance to construction teams, ensuring design compliance, and act as Principal Designer when appointed by the client.
7. Documentation: Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation to communicate design concepts and specifications to clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Utilize document controllers and integrate BIM innovation where practical.
8. Continuous Improvement: Keep up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, contributing to process and methodology improvements. Support professional development through CPD, and lead two CPD workshops per year for the wider team.
9. Safety: Develop and manage designer risk assessments and hazard management lists to minimize and document design risks during construction phases.
Skills and Experience:
1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred).
2. Certification: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IET or ICE is preferred; strong applicants working toward this status with relevant experience will also be considered.
3. Experience: Proven experience in structural design, analysis, and project management on major construction projects. Background in electricity substations or large-scale water pipelines is beneficial.
4. Technical Proficiency: Competency with civil/structural engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, TEKLA, and TEDDS or similar.
5. Skills: Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
6. Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
