We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Engineer to join the Medical Electronics team. The services provided by the multidisciplinary team of clinical scientists, medical technical officers, healthcare assistants and clerical staff include:
1. A medical equipment library
2. Training to medical equipment users throughout the trust
3. Workshop services offering an equipment preventative maintenance program, equipment triage and repair
4. An equipment management service offering administration of service contracts, advice on risk assessments, legislative compliance, equipment selection
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Engineer is responsible for:
1. Carrying out planned maintenance, acceptance testing of new equipment, service and repair on medical equipment and devices including for general and specialist area.
2. Commissioning new equipment via the procurement pathway - including running small tender exercises.
3. Training nursing and other staff in use of medical equipment and devices, keeping training records.
4. Organising and updating service, operation and instruction manuals for equipment.
5. Leading junior technicians in routine tasks.
The post holder will contribute to achieving the following trust aims:
1. Staff shall be assured that equipment will be available to meet clinical need.
2. Equipment will be properly maintained and managed.
3. No member of staff shall be obliged to assess, treat or monitor a patient with a medical device that s/he is not competent to use.
The post holder will be at the Royal Free hospital. However, they will be expected to attend any site to which the trust offers a service. They will also be expected to rotate to the equipment library and other sites where they may be based for an extended period.
