An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Radiography Department Assistant in the Radiology Department, primarily based at the previous Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospital sites.
The department provides a 7-day imaging service across all MWL sites; therefore, the post will include evening, weekend, and bank holiday duties.
The role will include assisting qualified staff during radiographic, CT, and MRI procedures, including patient care, IV cannulation, and clerical duties. Candidates must be keen to learn, enjoy a challenge, and have the ability to use their own initiative.

To provide assistance during imaging procedures as directed by a suitably qualified practitioner and coordinate inpatient transfers for all imaging modalities.
The Team provides radiological services to the health community, offering inpatient, outpatient, and GP services to a broad spectrum of client/patient groups.

KEY DUTIES
1. Assist Radiology clinical staff in all imaging examinations.
2. Support the Radiology clinical staff in maintaining high standards of care.
3. Accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the imaging department that the qualified practitioner feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake.
4. Assist patients throughout their imaging attendance.
5. Prepare imaging rooms and trolleys for clinical examinations.
6. Preparation of intravenous and oral contrast as per departmental protocol.
7. Intra-venous cannulation prior to imaging examinations.
8. Assist in cross-sectional imaging by positioning patients for procedures, including appropriate placement of MR coils and loading injector with contrast.
9. Responsible for coordinating inpatient transfers to and from Radiology for all imaging modalities.
10. Liaising with all wards and departments to confirm the mode of transport.
11. Organising portering staff to transport patients.
12. Observation of patients in the waiting room.
13. Responsible for cleaning clinical equipment that may have come into contact with body fluids.
14. Assist in providing an environment conducive to a safe, infection-free patient experience.
15. Undertake household support tasks.
16. Report all equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
17. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients during procedures which may require tact and encouragement.
18. Maintain a patient, courteous manner in all aspects of communication with patients and staff.
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
1. Ensure adherence to all departmental and trust SOP and policies.
2. Maintain the privacy and dignity of patients.
Administrative Responsibilities
1. Responsible for accurate data entry on the Radiology Information System.
2. Ensure the accuracy of data quality in line with departmental policies and procedures.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in the induction of new radiography helpers.
2. Attend training courses relevant to the post.
3. Maintain own personal development.
RESEARCH & AUDIT
Participate in departmental audit and research programmes.
