Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time physiotherapist to join the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS), and increase their skills and experience in this specialty. The SWMS is a Consultant Physician led Tier 3 MDT service consisting of Consultant Endocrinologists, a GP with Specialist Interest, Psychology Professionals, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, a Specialist Nurse, Support Workers, and Administrators. Since its beginning approximately 15 years ago, the SWMS has grown quickly and now provides a Tier 3 service to the areas of Teesside, County Durham, and most of North Yorkshire. The SWMS has recently been awarded Diamond accreditation as part of the STAQC scheme. The successful applicant will be responsible for running the SWMS physiotherapy service at specific community venues, and may also be required to provide cover at other venues. The successful applicant will have previous experience of working in the NHS as a physiotherapist, and possess good written and verbal communication skills and be able to demonstrate excellent team working skills. Previous experience of working with patients with obesity and/or in weight management will be advantageous. The service covers multiple community sites across Teesside, North Yorkshire, and County Durham. Clinic sites may vary in this role. Main duties of the job To take a lead role in developments within the SWMS Physiotherapy service. To take a lead role in the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating of the SWMS Physiotherapy service within a defined venue(s) area(s). Responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, accurate prognosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of care as an autonomous practitioner to clients with complex cases where clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice and expertise are essential to develop effective individual therapy plans. To be a source of knowledge in the specialist areas for the team, wider health care community and multi-agency partners providing specialised advice and clinical practice. To deliver exercise group sessions for those with a BMI over 30kg/m2 with or without mobility restrictions. To be aware of own scope of practice and the scope of other professionals and refer appropriately to provide holistic care. To seek advice from highly specialist therapists for complex cases To develop a supportive and educational role within the SWMS and the community e.g. as part of training days. Develop links between the outpatient and community musculoskeletal physiotherapy services to improve patient pathways. Participate in the evaluation of new advances and developments in the management of patients in the SWMS.
