We are seeking a Lead Shift Engineer to join our Engineering Department, reporting to the Engineering Maintenance Manager. This role is based at our Wear Bay Road Plant in Folkestone. As a Lead Shift Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving site performance and maintaining exceptional quality standards. You will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all engineering activities during your shift, ensuring smooth operations, and effectively managing site breakdowns and maintenance tasks. Your expertise will be essential in liaising with the Engineering Scheduler and Shift Manager to ensure that every challenge is addressed with precision and efficiency. Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Supervision: Guide your team by ensuring all engineers complete shift documentation and effective handovers.
2. Training & Development: Assist in training key skills and changeovers to keep the team sharp and capable.
3. Communication: Keep the Maintenance Supervisor, Shift Managers, and Engineers updated on all developments and situations.
4. Maintenance Coordination: Oversee and document all planned maintenance activities and ensure plant operations are within specifications.
5. Health & Safety: Uphold and promote compliance with GMP, hygiene, and safety standards.
Education & Experience:
1. Mechanical and Electrical qualifications (City & Guilds or NVQ L3 equivalent).
2. Extensive FMCG environment experience, especially with processing and packaging machinery.
3. 18th Edition electrical qualification (desirable but not essential).
4. Proficiency in troubleshooting PLC and robotic issues.
5. Proven track record in reactive, planned, preventative, and predictive maintenance.
6. Experience in leading continuous improvement and SMED projects.
7. Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
The ideal candidate will possess a proactive "can do" attitude and strong problem-solving skills, demonstrating the ability to work independently while effectively leading a team. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will need to interact with all levels of staff and contractors within the business. A team player at heart, you will have experience in formal problem-solving techniques and ideally hold basic Lean Six Sigma qualifications (yellow or green belt preferred). Your detailed problem-solving abilities will be critical in maintaining high standards and driving continuous improvement.
