Employment & Special Projects Legal Lead
About Baringa:
We set out to build the world’s most trusted consulting firm – creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.
You’ll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk, or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their organisations tick – slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.
As a Certified B Corporation, we've proven that we've built social and environmental good into every bit of what we do.
We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world - from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there's a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.
Our Legal, Risk and Compliance team are looking for an experienced Employment and Special Projects Legal Lead to join the team.
Legal Risk and Compliance (LRC) partners with the business, providing specialised legal, commercial, risk management and compliance support to enable confident growth. Everything from shaping and negotiating client and supplier contracts, to strategic partnerships, geographical expansion, insurance, company secretarial, restructuring, support for BE, to enterprise risk management.
What you will be doing
This role will report into the General Counsel, supporting the Legal Director (Commercial & Corporate) and People team on employment and Partner matters, and others in LRC and Business Enablement teams and wider firm on enterprise-wide strategic/special projects.
As Baringa scales, there is a greater demand for issue management across all locations and practice areas. To include advising on and managing:
* Sensitive internal and external matters
* Contentious or sensitive Employment and Partner matters
* Dispute avoidance, disputes, litigation and arbitration
* Enterprise-wide strategic or special projects (e.g. cross-Baringa commercial risk management issues where we need a mitigation plan developed and implemented) that LRC are involved with that require strategic legal risk management expertise
Your skills and experience
* Have a law degree, be admitted to practice law in England and Wales or a comparable common law jurisdiction, and at least 5 years of professional experience in private practice and/or in-house.
* Bring experience in employment matters, including both contentious and non-contentious, staff exits, and internal investigations.
* Bring experience in advising on dispute avoidance, litigation and arbitration. In-house experience would also be beneficial.
* Have a demonstrated ability acting as a business partner in providing commercial and strategic support to the business, with advanced stakeholder management skills and gravitas in order to interact and collaborate effectively with senior level stakeholders across the firm, building trusted relationships.
* Have a commercial mindset and strong business acumen as well as advanced analytical, stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the confidence to challenge, where necessary.
* Be a self-starter who is able to think fast, move swiftly and act decisively. An ability to be agile and flexible in a fast-paced environment and support the growth of the business by balancing legal matters with commercial outcomes.
* Be a proactive and collaborative leader with demonstrated expertise in developing potential in others and commitment to a team-based approach; demonstrated ability to work autonomously; demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, judgment and confidentiality where necessary.
* Be a creative thinker with a "can-do" philosophy (as opposed to applying "black letter" legal analysis) with a focus on looking beyond the obvious and developing solutions.
* Bring a global mindset and approach, with prior experience of having operated in an international environment.
* Be comfortable and experienced in working within a smaller business and can be hands on.

Putting People First.
Baringa is a People First company and wellbeing is at the forefront of our culture. We recognise the importance of work-life balance and flexible working and provide our staff amazing benefits. Some of these benefits include:
* Generous Annual Leave Policy: We provide our employees with 5 weeks of annual leave, fully available at the start of each year. In addition to this, we have introduced our 5-Year Recharge benefit which allows all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.
* Flexible Working: We know that the ‘ideal’ work-life balance will vary from person to person and change at different stages of our working lives. To accommodate this, we have implemented a hybrid working policy and introduced more flexibility around taking unpaid leave.
* Corporate Responsibility Days: Our world is important to us, so all our employees get 3 every year to help social and environmental causes and increase our impact on the communities that mean the most to us.
* Wellbeing Fund: We want to encourage all employees to take charge and prioritise their own wellbeing. We’ve introduced our annual People Fund to support this by offering every individual a fund to support and manage their wellbeing through an activity of their choice.
* Profit Share Scheme: All employees participate in the Baringa Group Profit Share Scheme so everyone has a stake in the company’s success.
