Glenfield Farms is seeking an experienced General Farm Hand / Stock Manager.
We are looking for an energetic, motivated person to join our team full time. Glenfield is made up of 3 blocks, it is an intergenerational family business consisting of 500ha, running deer and cattle in South Canterbury. Our business is made up of 60% deer (including 900 hinds, their progeny & 450 velveting stags), and up to 750 cattle (made up of a combination of dairy heifers and trading stock). The main farm / deer breeding block is rolling, unirrigated country 10km out of Geraldine and there are two flat irrigated blocks near Pleasant Point running cattle and stags.
This opportunity allows the successful applicant to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Geraldine block working alongside and reporting to the owner. Work will also be varied between properties when required, supporting what is happening throughout the business and during busy times. You will be responsible for management of stock health, feed and grazing management, general maintenance and when required overseeing casual staff. This role offers the ability to carry out all tasks that happen on farm. We aim to be self-sufficient doing the majority of our own weed control, fertiliser application, fencing & tractor work including making balage which means we are looking for someone who enjoys a variety of work, with a wide skillset. You will also get the opportunity to be involved in our deer breeding programme including AI and DNA testing. The successful applicant will need a broad range of experience in the ag sector, be capable of self-managing time & the ability to carry out all tasks unsupervised. For the right person, a great attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn can be substituted for experience.

The applicant will need to:
* Have experience with stock and pasture management
* Have excellent communication skills
* Be motivated, honest and reliable
* Be capable of working independently and with others
* Have good stockmanship
* Display accurate record-keeping skills
* Manage risks on farm and endorse the health and safety plan.
