Rotational Occupational Therapist

An excellent opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to gain employment at Queen Victoria Hospital.
This post incorporates three ongoing rotations of 8 months, one in Hand Therapy, second on the Burns/Plastics/ Head and Neck wards and the third in community rehabilitation team. All teams are friendly and dynamic and look forward to welcoming a new member. You will receive excellent supervision in both teams from experienced and long-standing senior staff. Opportunities are given for external training as well as a comprehensive in-house package. Previous experience in these specialist areas is beneficial but not essential.
Main duties of the job
The Hand Therapy rotation involves the assessment, diagnosis and formulation of hand therapy treatment to both inpatients and outpatients, referred from Consultants & GP’s, in order to maximise patient recovery and function.
The Burns/Plastics/Head and Neck rotation involves the assessment, diagnosis and formulation of therapy treatment to both inpatients and outpatients (adults and paediatrics) to the burns and plastics unit and plastics wards, in order to maximise patient recovery, function and safe discharge.
The Community Rehabilitation team treats a caseload of patients as outpatients attending the unit in single session or group and also delivers rehabilitative therapy within patients' residences in the local area.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or able to demonstrate specialist knowledge within this field through practical experience
* HCPC Registration
* Short specialist courses
Experience
* Working knowledge of broad range of conditions relating to functional impairment
* Experience of working as part of a therapy and/or multidisciplinary team
* Involvement in audit, research and understanding of quality issues
Skills
* Able to present information written and orally in a clear and logical manner
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the application and analysis of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools.
* Ability to carry out patient assessments and intervention, including manual handling techniques as required
