Salary range: £27,711 - £35,325 (Band 4/5/6) dependent upon experience
Working Pattern: Full Time
Working hours: 36.25 hours per week, Monday - Friday

About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join the Council’s Corporate Governance Legal Team. The Corporate Governance Team covers a wide array of law, providing the postholder an opportunity to learn and develop new skills and expertise.
Some of the areas covered by the team include:
* Local Government Law
* Data Protection
* Contracts and Public Procurement Law and application of Contract management and commercial disputes
* Criminal and Civil Litigation
* Licensing Law and public protection
* Employment Law
* Regulatory enforcement, including prosecutions in relation to Environmental Health, Health and Safety at Work, Licensing, Planning and Trading Standards
* Anti-social behaviour and community safety
* Debt recovery
* Inquests
As a Legal Assistant, you will support lawyers to enable them to provide comprehensive, cost-effective, responsive, and quality legal work as part of the Council’s in-house legal team. You will also lead on your own caseload of non-complex matters, which may include drafting court and other documents, liaising with professionals, advising clients and members, undertaking research, and conducting your own advocacy, for which training will be provided.
You will join a strong team that deals with issues pragmatically, within a supportive environment.

You will work well as part of a team and be flexible, enthusiastic, and committed.

Additional Information:
Flexibility will be required to work outside core hours as the post holder will provide advice and guidance to elected members and will attend a range of committees and boards on a rota basis. This will require some evening attendances.
