My client is a UKernment research entity responsible for the development of fusion energy. It operates as an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Their role is to research fusion energy and related technologies, with the aim of positioning the UK as a leader in sustainable nuclear energy. The organisation continues to make strides in fusion energy development, aiming to transform this transformative energy technology into a viable source of power. As such, they are seeking a Procurement Manager to help them on this journey.
Your new role
This role involves providing support to the Strategic Procurement Business Partner and Department Heads. This includes offering advice, guidance, andpletion of large procurements for the growing R&D portfolio within the organisation. The projects are diverse, ranging from Innovation and Business Development to supporting enabling technologies for tech transfer. In this role, you will be responsible for pre-qualifying contractors, interviewing and assessing tenders, and negotiating contracts as required. It also involves managing, monitoring, and controlling the progress of projects in terms of adherence to contract terms. You will be required to identify opportunities for improvements and propose solutions to contribute to continuous improvement. You will liaise with stakeholders regarding the creation, application, and implementation of procurement strategies for the Site and providemercial advice to senior management and stakeholders - participating in specific initiatives where appropriate. You will also provide mentoring and development for members of the procurement team, supporting them in delivering a first-class procurement service to the organisation, and ensuring the organisation ispliant with Europeanmission and UK directives for procurement in the public sector.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have a good understanding of procurement and possess the ability to negotiate with varied levels of suppliers. Some understanding of the NEC form of contract would be useful, and you will be a strong verbal and writtenmunicator with the ability to influence. A good technical appreciation of the range of procurement categories would also be useful, and you should bemercially astute and solution orientated. It is essential that you are a self-starter, good team player and thrive when working in pressurised environments.
