Here at Serco, we’re experts in designing, implementing, and managing waste and recycling services, and right now we’re recruiting for a Contract Manager for our Richmond based depot. We provide a complete Waste & Recycling service to ensure our community and client receive the highest standards.
Reporting to the Regional Director, you will lead, manage and be responsible for the performance of an outsourced, local authority contract portfolio including blue collar and supervisory staff in Waste & Recycling service provision within a demanding commercial environment.
You will champion the continuous improvement and contract growth processes, whilst actively seeking opportunities to increase and introduce new services which will create opportunities to deliver wider services to our client, residents and businesses.
You will ensure that KPI performance requirements are met, drive for change and innovation in the Contract to meet challenges for the future and develop and maintain effective relationships with local authority, community, trade union, internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
You will also produce management reports, manage staff and equipment, and manage the absence and welfare of all employees.
In addition to this, the successful candidate will identify commercial planning requirements and opportunities in service areas, implement exemplary service standards to monitor, review and benchmark service delivery, ensure all employees have received and understood the required training. Career development plans should be produced to enable continuous growth in our teams as well as constantly monitoring financial and operational performance to ensure all operations and methods are cost effective, efficient, with a view to excel targets.

About You
First and foremost, you will be an experienced and creative Contract Manager or Operations Manager, with experience of managing a large blue-collar workforce with an preferably Environmental Services (Refuse or Street Cleansing) or a Grounds Maintenance background, however not essential for the right candidate.
We ask that you are a strategic leader with the ability to make sound business decisions based upon data interpretation, a Level 5/ Degree or equivalent management qualification would be desirable.
A Transport Manager’s CPC would be desirable, as well as experience of managing relationships with trade union representatives and Local Authority clients.
We are keen to hear from applicants with experience of business development and transformation, leading on operational changes, continuous improvement and project management/facilitation, and with the ability to clearly present and communicate changes in a way that inspires and engages others.
You should have experience of managing close working relationships with the client and Local Authority client experience would be advantageous. We expect our Contract Managers to be very visible with the workforce, leading by example and very hands on.
