Energy Materials Technician - Late Shift

Purpose of the role:
The role of an Energy Materials technician is to support highly skilled scientific work in the Energy Materials laboratories. Working with a fast-paced collaborative team alongside scientists and engineers this hands-on role utilises a variety of advanced techniques and methods to advance our understanding and development of the next generation of clean energy electrochemical devices.
As part of the energy materials team, you will support many or all areas of expertise covered by the Energy Materials department. This may include materials analysis, EM sample preparation, ink, slurry and solutions preparation and analysis, quality control tests, post-test support and analysis, support for button cell testing, maintenance of lab spaces, and supporting health and safety activities.
Key Accountabilities:
• Provide practical support in Energy Materials laboratories, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary cross functional teams to ensure project deadlines and tasks are satisfied.
• Responsible for completing practical tasks safely as directed, following work instructions and direction from scientists and engineers. Typically works to daily or weekly plans.
• Support Energy Materials team through operating machines related to ink and solvent development, QC, deposition, inspection, sample preparation and/or analytical characterisation as required.
• Work closely with scientists and technicians, using appropriate data systems, providing input to project teams with relevant result, report and data as required.
• Maintain adequate stocks of tooling and raw materials to complete the required processes and report any shortages.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, equipment, and instruments in accordance with standards.
• Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are observed and adhered to.
Knowledge and skills required for the role:
• Experience of working in a scientific laboratory setting.
• Experience of working in controlled areas is preferred, e.g. clean room.
• Hard working, energetic and flexible with a “can do” attitude.
• Ability to work as part of a team, demonstrating good communication skills, and able to work independently following written instructions.
• Good manual dexterity and attention to detail, excellent prioritisation and follow up skills.
• Previous manufacturing operations or laboratory technician experience.
• Basic IT skills, evidence of numeracy and skills, including proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Practical experience with some of the following techniques:
- Ink, slurry and solvent preparation (e.g. bead milling, triple roll mills, high sheer dispersers, agitators)
- scientific sample preparation (e.g. cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing)
- deposition techniques (e.g. screen printing, jet coating, spray coating)
- materials analysis and QC techniques (e.g. BET, SEM, PSD, Dilatometry, TGA, XRD, XRF, rheology)
- test support (e.g. assembling test rigs or scientific test apparatus)
