About the Role As a Maths Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting young adult learners at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. Your focus will be on delivering engaging, small-group sessions (1-3 learners) in Functional Skills Maths, helping students build confidence and achieve their qualifications. Given the nature of their work, flexibility is key, as learners have shift patterns that vary their availability. Flexibility to deliver online tuition is also required. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are passionate about education and want to gain valuable experience working with students, using a fully resourced curriculum designed by expert teachers. The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK. Key Responsibilities Deliver in-person 1-1.5 hour sessions, supporting learners in developing essential skills for their functional skills exams. Adapt your teaching approach to accommodate the needs and availability of young adult learners, ensuring impactful and meaningful learning experiences. Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages growth and confidence. Core Requirements • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young adults. • Minimum C grade in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent). • A-level/equivalent qualification at grade B or above in a relevant subject. • Either a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate/postgraduate degree or currently working towards one. Additional Requirements • Availability to attend training sessions and commit to flexible tutoring hours. • Ability to commit to at least 2 hours of tuition per week for a minimum of 15 weeks (a 3-month notice period is required if no longer available for tuition). • Ability to travel to the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for in-person sessions. • Employment subject to DBS check, Right to Work check, social media check, and two suitable references. • A police check or police letter of good conduct may be required for applicants who have lived overseas for more than 3 months in the last 5 years.
