Early Years Practitioner (Level 3 )
Qualifications & Training:
NNEB or NVQ Level II qualification in child care & education (CACHE, DPP, DCE)
At least one years’ experience of working in a childcare environment(which may have been gained whilst studying for the qualification)
Must be working towards a level 2 qualification in Maths and English
May have appropriate first aid training
Responsible to: The Lead Practitioner
Post Grade: LEVEL 4 – SCP 8 – 23 temporary contract.
Capsule Job Profile:
Work as part of a team with the class teacher and/or lead practitioner in developing & implementing the early years foundation stage curriculum to ensure the efficient running of the nursery school.
Under the supervision of the Lead Practitioner and be able to:
• To be a member of the nursery team such as a keyworker or other post with equivalent responsibility & to work in any area as directed by the Headteacher.
• To work as part of a team with the class teacher(s) in developing and implementing the EYFS curriculum.
• Contribute to the supervision of learning & pastoral care and in consultation with the teacher, delivers the appropriate curriculum for the age of the pupils, with a degree of autonomy to adapt the activity as per the needs of the child
• Contributes to and leads class/ key group activities in conjunction with the teacher.
• In the absence of the class teacher(s) take responsibility for the teaching & learning of the class/ group.
• To encourage and promote learning by providing appropriately challenging levels of support and interaction, to develop and extend learning through play and use of language and for example use of signing where appropriate
• To act as keyworker for individual children and families & in this role feedback to parents/ carers on children’s progress.
• Undertake observations to plan and evaluate pupil progress, responsibility for sharing outcomes with the parents, in their role as keyworker.
• Assist in the maintenance of good behaviour and have a shared responsibility for the class, in conjunction with the teacher.
• Develop good relationships with and between families, professionals & school. Attend parent consultations and reviews as required.
• To lead home visits with another member of staff in order to facilitate the transition between home and school in order to evaluate and assess the home setting in preparation for the children starting school, the developmental requirements of the child and any special needs etc.
• Responsibility for maintaining record books and updating monitoring system.
• To attend and participate in staff and planning meetings to disseminate information on the child’s development, activity, training courses etc.
• Maintain confidentiality in and outside the workplace.
• Take part in performance management.
• Understand and assist in the interpretation of school policies.
• Awareness and understanding of safeguarding protocol and procedures and take appropriate action.
• To follow the school’s guidelines and procedures.

• Administer first aid (if appropriate)
• Ability to contribute effectively to team discussions & meetings
• Ability to share knowledge & supervise students
• Ability to continue to develop professional skills & knowledge
