The opportunity
As Data Transformation Engineer, you'll be an integral part of the multi-function Data Engineering Team. The team own the Azure Synapse service and design and develop pipelines for data transformation into the Azure Synapse Data Lake, Azure SQL Data Warehouse and out to Power BI. Additionally, this role will support legacy data processes (SSIS / SSRS) and data migrations as required.
This is a great role for someone with some Data Transformation experience, keen to develop and contribute to our future strategic ambitions. This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week in our Swindon office. The benefits:

1. Support the design and maintain the Azure SQL / Synapse meta data framework for Data Engineering
2. Develop Azure Synapse pipelines to load source data to the Data Lake and provide data to the Report layer(s) Power BI
3. Perform data transformations as per mapping documents
4. Develop Azure Synapse pipelines for audit capture, error, and exception handling
5. Automate Azure Synapse pipelines and Report Layer jobs using scheduling tools
6. Challenge and seek clarification on data mappings/ rules via Data Analysts
7. Challenge and seek clarification on data transformation logic / business rules via Business Analysts
8. Ensure quality is embedded and provable at every stage of code development
9. Provide design input for all technical deliverables
10. Create and maintain Technical Specifications
11. Support the data office and other data consumers within the organisation
12. Data extracts from Legacy systems
13. Migration of data and processes from legacy systems to Azure Synapse
14. Identify improvements to existing processes and helping to migrate data and modelling into Azure Synapse
What will you need to succeed?
Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge:
15. Experience with SQL Server (TSQL)
16. Experience in Agile working
17. Experience with Cloud services (Microsoft Azure preferably)
18. SSIS, SSRS
19. SQL Server 2012 and above esp. SSIS/SSRS 2017 (SSIS Catalog)
20. Strong TSQL
21. Data modelling fundamentals
22. Power BI
23. Data Warehouse and Report Layer design
24. Strong Agile Practitioner
25. Strong SQL/database querying skills
26. Microsoft BI (full stack) expertise (desirable)
27. Knowledge of Azure portal and Azure services (Desirable)
28. Knowledge of Agile working and Azure DevOps
29. Experience of D365
30. Experience of data testing
