The post-holder will be responsible for the planning and implementation of high-quality dietetic interventions on a specialist CAMHS Eating Disorders Unit, acting as a lead dietician to the service.
The team at Park Lodge consists of a full multi-disciplinary team (MDT) comprising consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychology, social worker, occupational therapy, teaching, dietician, family therapist and the nursing team.
The post holder will primarily be responsible for working alongside other members of the Senior Management Team delivering a high quality clinical service.
Clinical Practice:
To work as an autonomous practitioner to perform a specialist dietetic assessment of patients within Park Lodge.
To use clinical reasoning to provide a diagnosis and develop, deliver and adapt individualised dietetic treatment programmes.
To make autonomous decisions on the treatment plans for severely ill inpatients with Anorexia Nervosa, as well as Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Eating Disorders.
To provide nutritional advice surrounding multiple physical complications, including Diabetes, Renal failure, Bariatric complications, Coeliac disease etc.
To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload, to meet service and patient priorities, readjusting plans as situations or changes arise and to provide specialist dietetic reports as requested.
To work with a varied caseload, and provide leadership in this for the wider MDT.
To identify and carry out Clinic reviews and Home Visits in accordance with service and Professional standards and to assess patient condition and suitability for discharge and where appropriate supervise dieticians and dietetic assistants in these tasks.
To implement monitoring and evaluation of treatment in order to measure progress and outcomes to ensure effectiveness of interventions and service delivery.
To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work and that of supervised MDT members and hold responsibility for own caseload for a specialist area of the service, working without direct supervision.
To develop robust effective communication with all CWP staff and other relevant agencies i.e. GPs and other medical staff, nursing staff, social care staff, carers and users etc. and support junior and assistant staff to communicate effectively.
To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with the local policy and professional standards.
If required participate in evening and/or weekend duty rotas and/or emergency/on call rotas, providing treatment of patients and provide advice to medical and nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team without direct supervision.
To be responsible for maintaining stock of patient information and equipment (scales, feeding pumps, feeding tubes) and advising on resources to carry out the job and to use correct procedures relating to the safe and competent use, issue and retrieval of equipment.
Leadership:
To facilitate specialist supervision for the wider MDT.
Act as a positive role model for the discipline through the demonstration of strong leadership skills.
Provide support and advice in the clinical area to optimise quality improvement opportunities.
Analyse and respond to complex clinical situations utilising specialist knowledge to assess a range of options to formulate solutions and recommendations.
Act as a change agent, using skills that will motivate and reassure staff through negotiation and training to facilitate the change process.
To develop in-service training programmes for health care professionals, patients and carers and participate in clinical training of dietetic students, including supervision and written assessments of students and to supervise and appraise junior dieticians and non-qualified dietetic assistants in clinical workload and performance.
To actively work towards achieving key service objectives and devise reports regarding this.
To act as a resource for highly-specific eating disorder advice for colleagues working with MARSIPAN (Management of Really Sick Patients with Anorexia Nervosa) patients.
To collaborate with Team Managers to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to cover holiday and absences.
To develop the strategic direction of the Nutritional support services within in-patient services. This involves embedding in practice, CBT-based interactions with junior staff in the management of patients exhibiting maladaptive eating behaviours.
Managing Quality Standards:
Facilitate the production, publication and implementation of robust clinical policies that will support and sustain evidence-based and effective professional practice.
To critically evaluate current research and apply to practice and demonstrate an understanding and application of national guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care and their impact on service provision.
To act as a lead in cascading relevant practice developments to other members of the Eating Disorders staff.
To undertake nutrition and dietetic audit and disseminate at local level and participate in clinical governance activities and participate in the quality agenda and continuous service improvement. To also participate in the operational planning and implementation of policy and service development within your team, leading on delegated projects.
To regularly update service managers on all aspects of the Dietetic Service Provision within the Eating Disorders Services, both Ward and Community.
To establish good links with dietetic services within other providers to promote good, evidence-based, practice.
To directly provide advice and nutritional expertise on the individual meal plans for the patients.

The post holder will have access to a wide range of confidential information relating to patients, staff and the company which must not be divulged to any unauthorised person in any circumstances. The post holder will understand the policy and procedure regarding the use of confidential information and Data Protection Act.

Note: This role description may be subject to amendment to take account of changing circumstances but such amendments will only be made following consultation between the post-holder and the Board of Directors.
