Are you ready to take on the responsibility for managing your own small team?
You will bring with you confident communication and organisational skills, and of course, plenty of development chemistry experience from the industry.
Key responsibilities:
1. To manage, operate and develop the laboratory and product development functions so that customer requirements are consistently and cost effectively met.
2. To provide mentoring, support and development plans for members of the laboratory team and ensure training records are up to date, accurate and filed.
3. Conduct departmental employee appraisals in line with company requirements.
4. To work closely with the Commercial Department managing the creation of new products in line with agreed customer briefs and new ideas for presentation to customers.
5. To ensure that all new and existing products can be efficiently and consistently translated from sample to bulk production and approve production Methods of Manufacture.
6. Ensure the NPD process is followed diligently and provide advice and support when necessary during project gate meetings.
7. To build strong relationships with a group of preferred suppliers who not only provide an excellent service but also contribute ideas for new product development.
8. To proactively instigate the re-engineering of existing products so that costs are reduced without any deterioration in product quality.
9. To approve bulk formulation development costings ensuring that proposed formulations are accurate in accordance with customer briefs and commercially viable.
10. To approve and certify bulk Bills of Materials.
11. To create and maintain an effective and fully functioning laboratory.
12. To ensure that the company discharges its responsibilities for product compliance.
13. To ensure that the company meets its obligations under Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
14. To communicate and interact constructively with other members of the management team in the pursuit of continuous improvement and implementation of permanent solutions.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
1. Educated to degree level in a Chemistry related subject - Essential
2. Diploma in Cosmetic Science - Desired
3. Proven experience in developing cosmetics and personal care formulations from first principles, through to scale-up and full-scale manufacture - Essential
4. Proven knowledge of tech transfer of product from development into operations - Essential
5. Experience of managing and working in a GMP environment - Essential
6. Knowledge of COPTIS formulation software or a similar program - Desired
7. A confident people person able to communicate effectively with all levels of the business with the ability to lead and contribute in meetings and presentations at all levels
8. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to listen, discuss and advise
9. Strong hands-on management skills with a proven ability to lead, inspire, motivate and mentor team members
