HMP Bedford is a Category B reception and resettlement prison for men aged 18 years and over accommodating approximately 500 adult male prisoners who are sentenced. CNWL provides Pharmacy services, and works in partnership with the main healthcare provider Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust (NHFT).
You will be a Registered Pharmacist with a real passion for delivering high quality medicine management service. You will be self-motivated, flexible and work well within a team but be able to work autonomously. You will need to have previous experience in management and leadership.
You do not need to have prison experience as we will provide you with a full induction and training, but you will need to have pharmacy management experience.
Main duties of the job
* To deliver a comprehensive medicines management service to HMP Bedford patients and the multidisciplinary treatment team responsible for their care.
* To provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters relating to primary care, substance misuse and mental health services, this will include assistance with risk management and ensuring compliance with medicines legislation and local medicines management policies.
* To provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and trust wide levels under the direction of the advanced specialist pharmacist.
* To liaise with HMP Bedford pharmacy staff to support an effective dispensing and supply service.

Job responsibilities
* Ensure that all prescriptions and Medication Administration Records are clinically appropriate and meet all necessary legal requirements.
* Ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines in order to maximise benefit and minimise risk to patients. This includes regular reviews of prescriptions, identification of significant drug interactions, advice for clinical monitoring, compliance with legal aspects (Medicines Act, Mental Health Act) of medicines supply and compliance with the Trust Formulary.
* Assist the advanced specialist pharmacist on the implementation of medicine related NICE publications, ensuring that recommendations from CNWL NHS Foundation Trust Medicines Management Group are considered and that systems for auditing and reporting on uptake are established.
* Be responsible for providing clinical pharmacy input to the multidisciplinary team caring for patients.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
* Vocational Master's Degree in Pharmacy + Previous pre-registration training + Substantial post registration training relevant to hospital/prison pharmacy.
* Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
* Successful completion of short courses to the equivalent of a post graduate certificate in clinical pharmacy.
Desirable
* Working towards higher Degree/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy.
* Experience in clinical pharmacy in a prison setting.
* Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential
* Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate medicine related information to patients, carers and clinical staff.
* Previous evaluated experience of mentorship and training skills.
* To have undertaken clinical audit.
