Industrial Control Systems Engineer - SCADA/PLC

Your role
Due to an internal promotion, we have a unique opportunity for a Controls and Instrumentation Development Engineer to join our C&I team. As one of three development engineers, you'll leverage your expertise in industrial control systems, PLC/SCADA technologies, and instrumentation to help improve our operational performance through automation and innovation. You will be expected to support or lead our assets' development, commissioning, and maintenance. You'll apply your knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and energy market mechanisms to drive operational excellence and spearhead collaborative innovations. This role requires a strong foundation in instrumentation hardware and software, focusing on integrating various technologies to optimise performance.
With a solid background in engineering and a comprehensive understanding of power generation systems, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable energy solutions.
This hybrid role will require travel to sites across the UK and working from home.
What you will do
* Develop and modify software for industrial control systems
* Work with PLC/SCADA systems to enhance operational efficiency
* Specify and set up instrumentation for industrial processes
* Manage projects from development through commissioning
* Collaborate with team members to drive innovation
* Apply industry standards and safety regulations

What we are looking for
* HNC in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field
* Understanding of Machinery Safety Standards (CMSE)
* Knowledge of DSEAR Requirements for Hazardous Areas (COMPEX 01-04)
* Understanding of functional safety principles (IEC 61508, CEFS)
* Electrical competence (Apprenticeship or Equivalent Background)
* Experience in power generation or renewable energy sector
* Understanding of Energy System Operator (ESO) and market mechanisms
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations and quality standards
* Proficiency in industrial control systems and software development
* Strong background in PLC/SCADA systems and instrumentation
* Experience with communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, TCP/IP, ProfiNet)
* Project management and leadership skills
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
