Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and motivated Teaching Assistant to join our Year 1 team. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to support our young learners in a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment. As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping children build strong foundations in their education and fostering a love of learning.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting the class teacher with daily lesson activities and classroom management
* Assisting pupils with literacy, numeracy, and phonics to enhance their learning
* Providing one-on-one or small group support to help children meet learning goals
* Encouraging positive social interactions and reinforcing school behaviour expectations
* Uphold the school’s trauma-informed and relational behaviour approach, and be able to respond to children calmly, empathetically and positively with consistency.
* Preparing and organising classroom resources to create an engaging learning environment
* Supporting pupils with personal and intimate care as needed, in line with school policy
* Collaborating with staff to implement strategies tailored to individual learning needs
* Engaging in regular CPD to improve your knowledge, skills and practice.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children, patience, and understand early childhood development. Experience in a similar role or setting is beneficial but not essential; what matters most is your dedication to the well-being and development of our children. You will:
* Be enthusiastic and passionate about working with children and supporting their development
* Have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient approach
* Understand the Key Stage 1 curriculum and early childhood development
* Have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
* Have a collaborative and proactive approach to working with colleagues, parents, and carers
* Engage in and promote high-quality interactions with children
* Committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of all learners
* A confident communicator both verbal and written
* Have a reflective and adaptable approach, willing to continually improve and grow professionally
* Eager to engage in CPD and stay updated on the latest educational practices.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* A relevant qualification (such as a Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification or equivalent)
* A good general standard of education including GCSE English and Maths to Grade C or equivalent.
* An understanding of trauma-informed and relational approaches, or willingness to learn and embrace our school’s ethos.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, contributing to a positive and supportive school culture.
