This is an exciting role that offers the right individual a training opportunity to work and develop their clinical research skills within an acute District General Hospital setting. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse who is eager to learn and up for a challenge. The post holder will work as part of our clinical research delivery team predominantly at The Countess of Chester Hospital; however, travel to Ellesmere Port site may also be required as well as supporting our new Mobile Research Unit (MRU). As a valued member of the team, you will be helping to change NHS treatments and patients' lives for the better.
You will have the opportunity to be involved in all different types of NIHR Portfolio studies across a range of clinical specialties. This will initially be within acute and general medicine; however, it is not limited to this and offers a comprehensive introduction to clinical research nursing.
Main duties of the job
* Be a registered nurse and have successfully completed a preceptorship programme.
* Have good time management skills.
* Be able to integrate with a number of teams in order to achieve set objectives.
* Have a basic awareness of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Governance.
* Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access etc).
* Be willing to work flexibly in terms of hours and duties to meet service needs (i.e. to ensure safe recruitment into trials and to meet study patient care requirements). It's possible that this will include some out of hours working.
About us
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
* The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
* Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
* Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £27.50 (standard) or £55.50 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.

* NMC registration
* Registered Adult/Paediatric Nurse with current unrestricted NMC registration
* Compliant with NMC requirements for supporting standards for education and learning in practice or willing to acquire within 6 months in post.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
* Post-registration qualification or evidence of further study
* Educated to degree level or working towards.
* Clinical research qualification or equivalent experience working in this specialty.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* Experience of patient education and the provision of advice
* Experience of working as an NMC registered professional.
* Basic financial awareness
* Basic IT skills in word processing/Hospital systems
* Understanding of quality change in a clinical setting
