We’re currently seeking an experienced Deputy Project Director to join our team at the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) for the Sizewell C (SZC) project in Suffolk. This pivotal role offers the chance to provide strategic operational management, strong leadership, and control of a multi-disciplinary team in one of the UK’s most high-profile infrastructure projects.
As part of the SZC development, you will play a key role in shaping the future of low-carbon energy, with the Sizewell C power station set to generate 3.2 gigawatts of electricity for 6 million homes, providing clean energy for decades to come.
The Role:
The Deputy Project Director will provide strategic oversight and leadership across the project, ensuring successful delivery and performance in line with budget, schedule, and quality expectations. Your leadership will be crucial in creating a high-performing team and steering the project towards its objectives, including procurement, commercial management, risk management, health and safety, and ensuring the delivery of key milestones.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a multi-disciplinary team, driving performance, developing talent, and supporting the delivery of project goals.
Ensure adherence to scope, configuration management, and project governance, while monitoring KPIs and managing project risks.
Oversee health, safety, and environmental management, driving a culture of safety and compliance across the project.
Provide strong leadership and communication in managing key stakeholder relationships, ensuring timely and effective reporting.
Maintain strategic oversight of subcontract procurement and resources to ensure timely delivery and cost control.
Lead quality management processes, ensuring alignment with project standards and ensuring “Right First-Time” delivery.
Drive operational efficiency through Lean initiatives and improve project productivity across all functions.
What We’re Looking For:
Proven track record in project delivery, ideally within the nuclear or marine environment.
Extensive experience leading large teams and managing multidisciplinary projects, with a strong understanding of the NEC4 standard contracts.
Strong decision-making ability, with a solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
Demonstrated leadership in managing complex projects, mentoring junior staff, and developing high-performing teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of the organisation.
A background in health, safety, and environmental management, with a commitment to driving a safety culture across the project.
