We are now recruiting for a Head of Strategy Development & Impact who will be accountable for Wellcome’s strategy development and impact measurement to ensure Wellcome’s programmes and portfolios deliver their maximum contribution for the mission. Main responsibilities of the role: Be accountable for the work of the Strategy Development & Impact team to: Lead the development of global Wellcome vision, strategy and roadmap, working closely with the CEO Deliver an internal strategy consultancy function to support Wellcome’s leadership, providing high quality facilitation, analysis and insight Act as ‘thought partner’ to support and challenge programme directors in strategy setting and review Be accountable for setting and implementing Wellcome’s impact measurement approach at programme, portfolio and organisational level. Provide organisation-wide horizon scanning function, analysing trends, opportunities and threats to inform strategic decisions Keep up to date with new strategic framework and impact measurement methodologies Drive the delivery and monitoring of Wellcome’s strategy through departmental plans. Contribute to the creation and development of a high performing and inclusive culture across the organisation that attracts top talent. Advocate for Wellcome’s mission in all internal and external interactions, demonstrating Wellcome’s impact in achieving its mission. Ensure team operates within the agreed budget and headcount, having contributed to their development. Core criteria Significant experience in strategy development and impact measurement, preferably in a research, global health or global development organisation Experience in a strategy consulting firm is desirable. Advanced degree in relevant field such as social sciences, public health or related field. Experience in designing and managing impact monitoring and evaluation frameworks, including for science or health programmes Experience of implementing strategies, programmes and operating plans. Proficiency in using tools and methodologies such as Theory of Change, Social Return on Investment and impact assessments. Experience of managing budgets, headcount, and leading positive, high performing teams and inclusive working cultures. Skills Strong interpersonal skills, collegial with high integrity and committed to the highest ethical standards. Strategic thinking coupled with a pragmatic approach. Excellent management skills, able to lead, motivate and develop highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams. A fluent and persuasive communicator. Expertise in developing and implementing global and business unit/ division strategies Excellent leadership and facilitation skills. Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret data, generate insights and inform decision-making.
