About this client/child: Sam (13) lives with his Mum and younger sisters, Anna (10) and Imogen (5). All three children love to play and engage with activities, whether that is bouncing on the trampoline in their garden, baking a cake, taking a trip out to the cinema or going bowling. All the children like spending time with people and being out and about. Sam is a happy-go-lucky boy, who loves cooking and music, and being involved with activities at home. Sam likes routine and knowing what is happening now and next. Sam has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome; he is verbal but limited both in terms of vocabulary and clarity of speech. Sam uses Makaton and a VOCA device to aid in his communication. He requires supervision and assistance with dressing and is fully continent, and fully mobile.
Overview of role: Sam, Anna, and Imogen are looking for an energetic and adventurous SEN Nanny/Manny to become a valued member of their household! During term time, the role involves starting at 7am on Thursdays and Fridays to help Sam prepare for school and drive him there, while Mum takes the girls. After the school drop-off, the Nanny returns home to handle child-related domestic tasks, including changing beds, children's laundry, and preparing their evening meals. The family has a cleaner, and these responsibilities focus solely on the children’s needs. Walking the two, family dogs is also an important part of the role. During the school day, the Nanny/Manny will have time for personal breaks and study but must remain on-call in case one of the children needs to be picked up for any reason. School holidays, however, offer a more dynamic schedule: the children enjoy outings to theme parks, bowling alleys, and cinemas, as well as fun activities at home. The Nanny/Manny will be proactive and creative in finding and arranging exciting activities that will engage and delight all three children. Mum can be flexible with the Wednesday shift in term time and school holidays, if candidates are not available to work on Wednesday’s, or can only work occasionally, then Mum can accommodate this.
Who this job would suit: This role is ideal for a confident individual with a background in working with children and supporting those with learning disabilities. The candidate will be enthusiastic about planning and organising engaging outings and activities for children, while enjoying an active, on-the-go lifestyle.
What’s great about this job: This role provides exceptional pay rates, engaging day trips, and the deeply rewarding experience of helping all three children pursue their passions and enjoy their favourite activities.
