Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Primary School Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join a client school's Senior Leadership Team. This job role also includes class teacher responsibilities, working with a small group of students on a bespoke curriculum, with other support staff to assist in the classroom. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs, ensuring they receive the appropriate guidance and resources to thrive in their educational environment. A SENCo will collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create an inclusive atmosphere that fosters learning and development for all students. Duties Support your class of children with a range of SEND needs including Autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour. Oversee the identification and assessment of students with special educational needs within the school. Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. Provide training and support to teaching staff on best practices for inclusive education and differentiation strategies. Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to supporting students. Monitor the progress of students with SEN, reviewing IEPs regularly and making necessary adjustments. Maintain accurate records of interventions and progress for accountability purposes. Lead meetings with staff regarding SEN provision and share updates on relevant policies or changes in legislation. Promote a positive attitude towards diversity and inclusion within the school community. Qualifications Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential. A recognised SENCo qualification or willingness to undertake training is required. Experience working with children with special educational needs in a primary school setting is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. A commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on best practices in special education.
