Job Description:
This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving – making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule.
About the role (External)
The role sits within the Commercial team as part of the overall Capital Programmes team within Network Rail’s Supply Chain Operations organisation, which in turn is part of Route Services.
You will be responsible for a portfolio of projects and associated contracts, which are focused on the delivery of improvements to plant, depots and operational facilities.
The portfolio may have in excess of 30 contracts at any given time, with values ranging from £50k to £10m and varying levels of complexity. Many of the contracts are based on the NEC4 form, and so a strong understanding of this contract is essential, together with Contract Event Management and Reporting software (CEMAR). The portfolio is worth an estimated £80m across the remaining 4 years of control period 7.
There is a strong emphasis on financial control and cost reporting, and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate considerable agility and knowledge of all aspects of the projects’ finances, including cost of work done (COWD) forecasting, management of accruals, estimating, change management and cost control against an agreed budget. Cost control will also involve the valuation of contractor’s costs to ensure value for money.
The role will require frequent written and verbal communication with various key stakeholders, including internal customers, project delivery teams, procurement teams and internal assurance providers. Oracle is the principal platform used for reporting, together with data analysis through Business Analytics and PowerBI. You will be responsible for a small team of commercial managers to assist you in this task.
The role is based in Milton Keynes, and you will be required to attend the office on average two days per week, as required with the rest of the time working from home. Some of the commercial team are based in Birmingham and London, so consideration can be given to this acting as a base office location.
