An opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 WTE vacancy to join the expanding clinical interventions team. The Clinical Interventions Team is a truly specialised nurse led service performing interventional procedures as required. Patients commonly require some type of vascular access when receiving treatments for cancer, and many of these patients develop difficulties for short term devices or blood tests when the team can use Ultrasound guidance. In addition to placing PICC lines, Midlines and peripheral Portacaths for those patients who require long term devices. Other patients are referred to the team for complex line removals at the end of treatments. As a nurse led service we remain passionate about developing future skills particularly with the vision of placing all types of central lines. Additionally, as an interventional team other non-vascular service developments may be necessary.
Main duties of the job
As a specialist team, the main focus is centered on PICC/Portacath and Midline insertions; ultrasound is used for venepuncture and cannulations. Removals of skin tunnelled catheters and implanted chest devices when required has become popular. As vascular access experts, education and teaching plays a large role supporting staff and departments.
Full training will be provided for all candidates. Knowledge of chemotherapy for either oncology or haematology is not required but would be an advantage for this position.
