Voltempo is developing rapid DC Hyper Charging solutions for a range of commercial vehicle sectors, initially here in the UK, but progressively internationally as the transport sector electrifies. The company holds several international patents, it is engaged in the end-to-end design, supply, site commissioning and servicing of charging solutions, targeting commercial vehicles. The business is currently scaling and is well supported by both its international shareholders and its role under the UK Government eFreight2030 programme, where it is leading a consortium of UK logistics fleet operators to deploy the UK’s first eHGVs charging network.
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated EV Charging Installation and Commissioning Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our installation and commissioning team, you join the team responsible for the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The ideal candidate will be an apprentice-trained electrical engineer with up-to-date electrical qualifications, hands-on experience with 400V 3 phase systems, and a strong understanding of DC charging systems. The role will also involve diagnosing and resolving issues on-site with DC and AC charge points, and writing detailed reports following inspections and testing. Commission LV systems, signing off the ICPs work. Carrying out energy audits to determine the requirements for any site upgrades required to support deploying an EV network, commissioning 415v networks, commission and servicing EV charging systems
Key Responsibilities:
* Installation & Commissioning: Install and commission EV charging stations at customer sites, ensuring work is completed to high standards, compliant with regulations and safety standards.
* Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve faults, particularly on DC charge points, using your initiative and technical expertise to find solutions on-site.
* Electrical Systems: Work with 400V electrical systems, ensuring proper connection, configuration, and safety practices during installation and commissioning.
* Cable Knowledge: Identify and work with different cable types, understanding their applications for optimal performance in EV charging systems.
* Testing & Reporting: Conduct testing and inspections of newly installed systems to ensure they meet electrical and safety standards. Provide clear, concise, and accurate test reports.
* Customer Interaction: Interact with customers and provide on-site support, answering technical queries and offering solutions when needed.
* Compliance: Ensure all installations comply with current electrical regulations, including the IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and relevant EV charging standards.
* Documentation: Maintain thorough records of installation processes, testing results, and troubleshooting steps.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
* Apprentice Trained: Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent.
* Electrical Qualifications: Current qualifications in electrical systems, including 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and relevant EV charging certifications (e.g., City & Guilds 2919 or equivalent).
* Experience with 400V 3 Phase Systems: Proven experience in installing and working with 400V electrical systems in commercial or industrial settings.
* Fault Diagnosis: Experience diagnosing and resolving faults on DC charge points, including fault-finding on-site using your initiative. Including backend software systems and network connectivity.
* Testing Experience: Experience in electrical testing, including using test equipment and interpreting results.
* Report Writing: Strong written communication skills for producing accurate and detailed test and installation reports.
* Health & Safety: Strong knowledge of electrical health and safety regulations and best practices.
* Full UK Driving License: Ability to travel to multiple installation sites across the UK as required.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience with specific EV charging manufacturers or equipment.
* Experience in commissioning smart EV chargers and integrating them with backend systems.
* Experience of HV substation and feeder pillar installation, HV Permitted Person Entry qualification
* Desire to keep own skills up to date and to continue learning to keep in line with this fast moving industry
* A keen interest in EVs and the charging infrastructure
