2. Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Physiotherapist (22.5 hours per week Band 6)
These are fixed term/secondment project posts until 31/3/26 from the start of appointment to develop and deliver a high-quality haemato-oncology and palliative care specialist Therapy service to patients under the care of HDFT.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will work alongside the band 7 specialist occupational therapist who will lead the project within a multidisciplinary team consisting of Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Dietetic and administrative support.
To provide specialist and autonomous evidence-based HOP interventions, managing a complex caseload of outpatient and community patients to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
* Within Cancer, the service will focus on patients diagnosed with Cancer of unknown primary (CUP), Lung, Upper GI, primary Brain cancers and those with haematological malignancy.
* Within Specialist Palliative Care, the service will focus on patients with progressive life-limiting illness and complex needs within the defined referral criteria.
To provide a high standard of specialist therapy assessment and intervention for patients with complex needs in the community, outpatients and specialist advice to therapy colleagues in hospital settings to:
* facilitate optimal level of function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions,
* facilitate optimal level of function to enable consideration of anticancer treatment,
* facilitate preferred place of care,
* optimise symptom control,
* help to maximise quality of life and address individual needs.

Essential
* Registered with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy (or equivalent).
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy/Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
* Minimum of 2 years clinical experience.
* Proven ability of successfully working with people and handling difficult and complex situations.
Desirable
* Previous experience working in cancer services or palliative care.
