BMW UK, Farnborough – The New Retail Project Intern- 13 Month Placement (July 2025)
What is The New Retail?
With recent market developments such as fierce competition, changing customer behaviours and new digital interactions it is imperative that as a leading Premium Brand, the BMW Group in the UK and Ireland are at the forefront of this exciting era of transformation. The objective of the project is to roll out an agency sales model across the European business.
This role will be specifically focused on ensuring the BMW Group remains at the forefront of our changing and highly dynamic industry, through supporting, developing, and implementing The New Retail (TNR) initiative to maximise market potential and ensure the highest quality of business for the BMW Group. Based in the UK headquarters in Farnborough you will be part of one of the largest and most exciting projects in BMW’s history and part of the wider transformation of the automotive industry.
What awaits you?
5. Contributing to the Strategic direction of the BMW Groups business by working with the TNR project team.
6. Supporting the ‘The New Retail (TNR)’ project manager and team to manage project timelines with multiple business partners within the UK, IE and Munich.
7. Collating and tracking the potential risks or issues that could affect the roll out of The New Retail Project.
8. Co-ordinate and relaying local market input to the Munich project team for key business requirements to ensure that they meet the groups operational and strategic requirements.
9. Monitoring progress of each of the local BMW Group workstreams (project areas) to ensure that progress toward the completion of the project is working in parallel with the Munich working groups.
10. Co-ordination of key project meeting and communications.
11. Opportunity to work with different areas of the business such as Sales, Finance and Marketing to support them with their project deliverables and broaden your experience of BMW and business in general.
12. Support the delivery of the change management programme for internal employees and Retailers. This includes working on the development of workshops, training and other events, and the delivery of these activities.
What does the day-to-day life of this role entail?
The nature of the project means that everyday can be different however there are certain roles and functions you can expect to carry out consistently throughout your placement year:
13. Helping to co-ordinate events and communications with Retailers including developing and supporting several different comms platforms and the content for them.
14. Support the creation of content for various internal and Retailer communications including shooting and editing short films.
15. Gain first-hand experience of Agile delivery methodologies, software development lifecycle and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
16. Working with teams from across the business both in the UK and internationally to support the delivery of key elements of the project.
17. Using finance software such as SAP to assist the New Retail project by managing the purchasing process for the team.
18. Organising and steering weekly project meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
19. Studying towards a bachelor's degree in Business Studies, Marketing, Management, or a related field and on track to achieve at least a 2:2.
20. An experienced user of Microsoft Office products.
21. Knowledge of Project Management work packages would be advantageous but is not essential.
22. A strong ability to adapt your working approach and be flexible depending on specific requirements, as well as being able to prioritise activities, work under pressure, multi-task, and solve problems.
23. Strong relationship building, interpersonal skills and a team player. This role will involve working in a small team whilst liaising with several other business areas.
24. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
25. Good organisational and time management skills, coupled with the ability to show high attention to detail in every task.
26. A full UK Driving License is advantageous but is not essential.
