Job overview
This is a full time post (10 programmed activities) as a substantive Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry at Bolton starting as soon as is available.
There is an exciting opportunity for a consultant psychiatrist working with the Mental Health Liaison Team at the Royal Bolton Royal Hospital. The team is a Mental Health MDT employed by Greater Manchester Mental Health. The successful candidate will be working with 1 other Consultant, a Specialty doctor, a junior doctor, a psychologist and multiple mental health practitioners.
The Bolton Mental Health Liaison team are a dynamic, proactive, and supportive service working with A&E and the wards at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
The successful applicant will have CPD time built into their job plan and will have access to study leave and a study budget. We will expect the successful candidate to engage with professional development opportunities such as delivering teaching and gaining management experience.
Main duties of the job
* To provide medical leadership in Liaison Psychiatry to the Mental Health Liaison team.
* As a medical expert, to lead on service development for all adults with mental illnesses within the Royal Bolton Hospital. This will necessitate excellent influencing and joint working skills.
* To provide first line generic assessments to any patient referred to the service. All members of the team will be able to provide these assessments.
* To provide medical support and supervision to the Liaison team, completing second line specialist assessment and medical treatment where appropriate, supported by the other Liaison consultant and Specialty Doctor.
* To contribute to the development of the service in conjunction with other Team members.
* To supervise junior doctors acting within the Liaison team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Work closely with the other Liaison consultant and other team members to develop and maintain a high quality, responsive, flexible and integrated service meeting the needs of its client group and the Royal Bolton Hospital.
* Assess the full range of referrals from A&E and all inpatient wards, including all patients with mental disorders over the age of 16 referred to the team. Skills in managing acute psychiatric emergencies for individuals of working age and old age are necessary.

Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
