We work with infrastructure developers, property companies, governments and landowners to embed effective management of land, air and water through planning, delivery and operation of new and retrofit projects. Our service is comprehensive, including air quality, biodiversity, noise, community engagement, environmental assessment and management, land quality, water, resources and waste, and the maintenance and protection of historic environments.
The position is for a Senior Environmental Consultant to work within the Assessments team in our Climate Change and Sustainability Services business in London. You will deliver impact assessments for projects at all levels, including major national infrastructure (transport, water and energy sectors) and urban development projects. Clients will include private developers, public sector authorities and other organisations. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary environment alongside other environmental, planning, engineering and urban design specialists, and will work closely with technical disciplines (both internal and external to Arup) to deliver high quality environmental consultancy services.
Your remit will be to undertake technical work as well as assist with proposal preparation and marketing activities. You will be accountable for:
1. Delivering environmental impact assessment projects – this will involve managing the assessment process and technical teams and reviewing all technical inputs.
2. Writing environmental reports including EIA screening letters, EIA scoping reports, Environmental Statements, and other environmental reports.
3. Reviewing topic reports/inputs for compliance with EIA Regulations and project details.
4. Project management activities including programming and budget control.
5. Conveying and liaising with clients.
6. Assisting with impact assessment team business development and marketing.
7. Preparing bids and presentations.
Good knowledge of environmental legislation, and application of relevant legislation, policy and guidance in respect to impact assessment for a range of project types is required. Project knowledge in Energy and/or Water sectors is essential. Proven ability to project manage environmental projects, successfully managing teams of technical specialists and multi-disciplinary teams is also necessary. Experience working within a commercial environment, including client liaison, programme and time management, quality assurance and financial/budget control is expected. Ability to manage and direct more junior staff, including line management duties where appropriate, is required.
We are looking for people with:
* Education to degree level, preferably a master’s degree
* Full membership of an appropriate institute (e.g. Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or equivalent).
* Chartered Environmentalist status but not mandatory.
