Legal Counsel (Commercial) - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover) - Manchester
A leading organisation in Manchester seeks a qualified Legal Counsel (Commercial) to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, commencing in May.
Role Summary:
Reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the Legal and Compliance team. They will act as a legal advisor to colleagues of varying levels of experience and seniority across the organisation.
The role requires a specialist in commercial law, providing legal and technical advice for tenders, strategic projects, IT contracts, collaborations and partnerships, and general commercial agreements. The individual will direct and guide the Legal and Compliance team in routine matters.
Responsibilities include managing a diverse and complex caseload, involving activities such as:
* Attending organisational meetings, steering groups, and committees.
* Conducting negotiations with third parties.
* Reviewing, amending, or drafting a wide range of legal documents, contracts, and policies.
* Advising on a diverse range of laws, legislation, and regulations.
* Drafting letters and writing briefing notes.
* Providing advice and/or formal legal briefings in writing and in person.
As a member of the Legal and Compliance team, the post holder will be required to work on the organisation's premises at least three days per week.
About You:
The ideal candidate will:
* Be a Qualified Solicitor/Barrister with evidence of keeping up to date with relevant developments in the law and ongoing professional development.
* Bring demonstrable expertise and experience of managing varied and complex casework in commercial contracts, including IT, procurement of goods and services, marketing, collaborations, and IP.
* Be able to work independently, leading on their own matters and workload.
* Possess experience of managing early-stage disputes.
* Be passionate about working as part of a small and high-performing team, sharing knowledge, best practices, and supporting colleagues.
* Be willing to take a role supporting more junior members of the team.
* Be able to engage with panel law firms.
