With a multidisciplinary team of 20 staff, the Trustwide Audiology Department serves a population of around 550,000 in County Durham and Darlington.
We provide a comprehensive diagnostic assessment and rehabilitative service for adults and paediatrics, including ENT support, Hearing Therapy, Tinnitus management, vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, BAHA, NHSP diagnostic assessment, paediatric rehabilitation, adult direct referral clinics, community paediatric assessment clinics etc. We are an AQP site (Any Qualified Provider) for the Direct Access of Hearing aids service.
An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual to join our Audiology service providing a range of services across County Durham and Darlington. The post has a nominal base at Darlington Memorial Hospital but the post holder will be expected to cover our various community and hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
You will be fully competent in all aspects of routine audiology assessment and rehabilitation and will be confident working with patients with complex needs. You must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have some experience in training and supervision of junior team members and other staff. Exact duties will be dependent on your experience. Experience in paediatric testing is desirable. We are also interested in applicants who have a keen interest in adult complex rehabilitation and tinnitus.
Job responsibilities
You will help develop the Audiology service at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and work at our outreach clinics for both the adult and paediatric population. You will undertake a range of diagnostic testing and testing of middle ear function. You will refer suitable patients for BAHA and cochlear implants as appropriate.
You will support patients in understanding their hearing loss, set realistic expectations and develop individual management plans. Selecting and fitting appropriate hearing aids and reassessing hearing will form your main duties as well as supporting ENT clinics.
