The opportunity
Our Financial Modellers have a crucial role to play in driving commerce in its many forms. As an Assistant Director in the team you will work closely with clients, helping them capitalize on new opportunities and deliver responsible growth by building the tools they rely on to guide critical decisions and to secure the funds to enact them. In doing so, you will have exposure to many aspects of corporate and project finance across a wide range of industries.
Modelling projects involve building or reviewing complex financial models for transactions, strategy, financial restructuring and forecasting. Working on a variety of projects, you will apply your specialist technical skills and commercial experience, whilst delivering value to through the insights gained from the models you build.

Your key responsibilities
As an Assistant Director, you will be responsible for ensuring that modelling projects are delivered to the highest standards, whether you are supporting clients directly or working with other internal teams as part of a multi-disciplinary engagement. You will scope how projects will be delivered, agree the approach with clients and coach junior team members through delivery.
Throughout engagements, you will manage the financial aspects of engagements by preparing a budget, organising staffing, tracking engagement economics, keeping clients up to date and communicating the status to the project Partner.
In addition to delivering work, you will develop new business by responding to clients’ requests for proposals and by building and leveraging your own your network of internal and external contacts.
Historically, the majority of the team have been based in our London office with a smaller team in Edinburgh. EY is moving toward a hybrid working model and supports flexible working patterns. We are very happy to consider applicants from across the UK although you must be willing to travel to London and/or to clients in the UK or overseas, as required.
Skills and attributes for success
1. Strong Microsoft Excel skills – testing, designing and building models; incorporating operational, tax, accounting and financing aspects across a range of sectors. You will have a strong understanding of Excel-based financial modelling and how it can be applied to corporate finance
2. Attention to detail – you will review financial models and be able to articulate your findings and conclusions
3. Stakeholder management - every day you will interface with multiple stakeholders across different functions and you will appreciate the context of the transaction and the client's business issues
4. Logical thinking – you will apply logical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to support resolution of issues
5. Communication – you will need to be able to communicate effectively with the engagement leader, the client, and the wider team in a concerted effort towards delivering work products of the highest standard
6. Support – you will coach and develop more junior members of the team
7. Strong interpersonal skills and inclusive teaming – you will be part of a diverse team with various backgrounds and experiences. To qualify for the role you must have
8. Experience leading teams in complex modelling engagements in a transaction or fast moving environment
9. Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage more than one assignment at a time and yet still demonstrate quality and consistency of performance in every task
10. People management skills and previous evidence of coaching others to maximise performance
11. The ability to share technical and other knowledge with the team drawing on previous experience and current learning
12. A flexible and positive approach and ability to adapt well to change
13. The desire and ability to build effective relationships at all levels
14. A strong appreciation of risk management
Ideally, you’ll also have
15. Counselling skills
16. Track record within a recognised Financial Modelling team
17. Professional qualification, such as ACA/CA/ACCA, would be helpful
