Medway’s Education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Division is committed to supporting all children and young people to learn and grow and achieve their potential in education. The Education and SEND Division covers a wide scope of services, including school admissions, place planning, Medway Test, school transport, capital developments, high-needs funding and support for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans, early years funding and sufficiency, school improvement and effectiveness, inclusion and attendance.
The Education and SEND Division is seeking highly driven and experienced professionals to join these teams at an exciting time of change within this sector. Successful candidates will join a supportive network of professionals within the Division and across the wider People Directorate and Council. They will have the opportunity to contribute to our journey of improvement and shape our service delivery to children, young people and families in Medway.
We are recruiting a Deputy Area Inclusion Lead (Senior EHC Co-ordinator) for our very busy team. Your role is to support the Area Inclusion Hub Leads (SEND Managers) to ensure that the statutory assessment process is adhered to and that a quality Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) is developed in line with the principles of the SEND Code of Practice and the Local Authority's (LA) own practices, procedures, and corporate values. You will be expected to advocate the comprehensive use of Case Management, the SEND case management system, and ensure that staff are updating records accurately and in a timely way. You will have a sound understanding of what good EHC looks like and support Hub Leads with quality assuring EHC plans following annual reviews.
The successful candidate will be expected to implement the SEND framework for the EHC needs assessment and production of the EHCP. To identify and support line managers with staff training. To provide supervisory support to EHC Coordinators to enable them to be confident in their roles and to support them through the LA's policy and procedures. Provide expert advice, guidance, and support to colleagues, service users, and partner agencies. To support EHC Coordinators to understand and implement the SEND Code of Practice, in order to enhance communication across partnerships and with stakeholders. To improve the SEND Service's agenda of inclusion within schools, ensuring that the appropriate school is allocated to the needs of the pupil.
As a Deputy Area Inclusion Lead (Senior EHC Co-ordinator) you will hold a small caseload of complex cases.
