Behaviour Support Assistant - Primary School Overview As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with behavioural difficulties in a primary school setting. This role involves working closely with students, teachers, and external professionals to support their behaviour and promote a positive and safe learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with behavioural difficulties. Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies as directed by the SENCO or class teacher. Monitor and record student progress and behaviour patterns to inform future support plans. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support students' behaviour improvement. Help create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all students. Requirements: Experience working with children or young people in an educational or care setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations. Understanding of child development and behaviour management techniques. Education and Experience: GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths. Additional training or qualifications in child development or behaviour management is desirable. Prior experience working with children with behavioural difficulties is preferred. Experience in implementing behaviour support plans or interventions. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies. Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Good observational and reporting skills. Basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication. Preferred Qualifications: Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Training in de-escalation techniques or positive behaviour support. Working Conditions: This is a temporary position based in a primary school in Preston, Lancashire, North West England. Full-time hours are expected, with occasional flexibility required. The role may involve some physical activity and the ability to respond quickly to behavioural incidents.
