I'm recruiting on behalf of a well-established and forward-thinking engineering firm based in Beccles, who are looking to bring an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer into their growing design team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to create innovative mechanical design solutions for various projects.
2. Take a lead role in concept development and transform ideas into detailed 3D CAD models.
3. Apply sound mechanical engineering principles to overcome complex design challenges.
4. Produce factory and machine layouts in 2D CAD.
5. Generate accurate and detailed bills of materials and parts lists for mechanical assemblies.
6. Participate in meetings with project teams, suppliers, and clients to fully understand and deliver mechanical requirements.
7. Ensure all designs comply with current regulations, standards, and company procedures.
8. Support the Sales team with design input for quotations and project costings.
9. Provide hands-on technical support throughout build, testing, and commissioning phases.
10. Effectively manage workload to deliver designs in line with project timelines.
11. Continuously seek ways to improve design quality and processes.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally within the automation or special purpose machinery industry.
2. HNC/HND or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
3. Highly proficient in 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks), with strong design-for-manufacture experience.
4. Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar data management tools is advantageous.
5. Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and mechanical components.
6. Meticulous attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach to design.
7. Effective time management and the ability to juggle multiple projects.
8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
10. A passion for innovation and engineering excellence.
