We are looking for a talented and motivated Senior or Principal Heritage Consultant to join our newly established Historic Environment team.
We are flexible in terms of where the role will be based, Leeds, London, Edinburgh or Glasgow would be ideal, but other Sweco UK locations would be considered. We work flexibly and operate a hybrid policy which to us means at least 3 days either in the office or on site.
In this role, you will report to and assist the Historic Environment Lead in delivering heritage input across a portfolio of projects across England, Scotland and Wales. The role will involve producing desk-based assessments, heritage statements, providing expert technical input into Environmental Statement Chapters alongside supporting the team lead with technical assurance and review.
You will provide expert advice to clients and colleagues alike and engage with curators and other relevant stakeholders. You will also design, manage and monitor archaeological surveys where necessary.
You will be an effective team member but also able to manage your own workload and will possess excellent communication skills, while some experience of business development would be advantageous.
To be successful in this role you’ll possess:
* A Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology or related subject.
* Extensive knowledge of the UK legislation and planning policy in relation to the historic environment, including the role of setting.
* Demonstrable experience in undertaking Desk-based Assessments, Heritage Statements, Walkover Surveys and inputting into Environment Statement Technical Chapters.
* Applied knowledge of GIS in carrying out archaeological and historic environment assessments.
* Experience in designing archaeological fieldwork strategies, producing Written Schemes of Investigation and liaising with archaeological fieldwork teams.
* Experience in delivering clear, expert advice to clients and colleagues alike throughout the pre-planning, planning and post-consent processes alongside consultation and engagement with key heritage stakeholders.
* Full UK Driving License and willingness to travel for site visits, including overnights.
* Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists at ACIfA accreditation, ideally MCIfA accreditation.
The following are desirable but not essential for the role:
* Master’s degree in archaeology or related subject.
* Experience of working with historic buildings, including producing heritage statements in support of listed building consent.
* Experience in Energy Consents Unit (ECU) and/or Development Consent Order (DCO) applications.
* Expert witness experience.
