An exciting opportunity has arrived in Swindon.
Swindon Sexual Health is looking for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to become an Outreach Specialist Nurse.
The successful candidate will complement our highly motivated community team. The post holder will be able to screen, treat & manage sexually transmitted infections. They will also have experience of assessing & issuing all methods of contraception and LARC.
They will have experience in managing their own caseload and knowledge of safeguarding young people and vulnerable people.
You will demonstrate evidence of well-developed clinical practice, excellent communication/interpersonal skills, be innovative and enthusiastic to meet the challenge of this expanded role.
Flexibility will be key to this role, as cover will be required across our sites. Transport is essential to enable you to travel to patients or other sites.
You will need to be available to work evenings and Saturdays as required.
Main duties of the job
* To effectively counsel clients on all methods of contraception
* To assess, screen and treat sexually transmitted infections
* Administer or issue prescribed medication as appropriate following NMC professional guidelines, working from PGD's as appropriate or as a non-medical prescriber, to prescribe within scope of professional accountability in accordance with the Non-Medical Prescribing policy.
* Manage and communicate complex sensitive information to clients and other agencies i.e. child protection, sexual assault, termination of pregnancy
* The post holder must be flexible to meet the demands of the service.
* Good communication, organisational, interpersonal and negotiation skills are essential for this post. This includes educating and empowering clients and their carers.
* To provide support and education to clients on a one to one basis in a variety of settings
* To provide advice, support and education to agencies involved with young people and vulnerable adults
* Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams, primary care, social and voluntary services and all others involved with delivery of services to young people
* Working autonomously to encourage young people to engage with other agencies when necessary.
About us
Outreach are a small team (3 nurses) and work within the larger Sexual Health Team, that consists of a close working multidisciplinary members- Drs, Nurses, Health Advisers, Health Care Assistants, and Reception staff.
We are based in the Community at Swindon Health Centre.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide a confidential and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health service offering skilled nursing care to clients accessing Swindon Integrated Sexual Health for contraception and/or sexual health screening both within the clinical setting and in the community. To work as an autonomous practitioner managing clinical caseload, assessing, implementing and evaluating care of the client who is at risk of unplanned pregnancy, sexual ill health and safeguarding. They will independently assess, diagnose, advise and treat clients. The post holder will participate in the provision of care to clients in accordance with the standards of care within the service. Expert health advice and support will be provided to colleagues both at district and local level. The post holder will work closely with other multi-agency teams.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Contraception & Sexual Health Course at level 2 or 3 or NMC equivalent and/or Sexual & Reproductive Health Competencies (BASHH competencies)
* Teaching or mentoring and assessing qualification or willing to undertake
* Experience of PGD's
* Non-medical prescribing.
* Skilled in the insertion and removal of IUD's/IUS's and subdermal implants.
* Skilled in cervical cytology.
Experience
* Experience of working in sexual health
* Evidence of continual professional development.
* A willingness to commit to training to enhance this role.
* Experience of mentoring pre and post-registration students.
* Experience of working in a nurse-led clinic.
* Experience of working autonomously.
* Experience working with young and vulnerable people
* Sound knowledge of safeguarding
* Understanding of the basic principles of effective staff management.
