Purpose of the Maintenance Technician
Multi skilled Electro/Mechanical Engineer with Electrical bias, working as part of a small team performing reactive and proactive maintenance on factory machinery and infrastructure. The Technician will have to react to breakdowns, diagnose faults and minimise down time. You will undertake routine electrical inspections and complete repairs as required. Install new equipment and work on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment. Ensure work is completed in line with recognised codes and practices and promote safe working practices. Suggest ongoing improvements to help the business continue to perform for customers.
Specific Tasks for the Maintenance Technician
1. Carry out reactive and proactive maintenance on factory machinery and infrastructure ensuring minimum disruption to Production schedules.
2. Work in accordance with recognised codes and practices and promote safe working practices.
3. Responding to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults, performing preventative and planned maintenance activities.
4. Undertake routine electrical inspections and complete repairs as required using both mechanical and electrical skills.
5. Install new equipment and work on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment.
6. Search for, select and order alternative equipment to ensure rapid repair of production machinery and plant.
7. Execute work according to standardised (ALPS) work practices.
8. Assist with developing maintenance schedules to ensure the safe and effective operation of equipment and machinery and other areas on site.
9. Contractor selection/co-ordination and induction in line with corporate and legal guidelines. RAMS evaluation and permit to work creation for high-risk activities.
10. Identification, selection and inspection of critical equipment through HAZOP evaluation techniques.
Job requirements of the Maintenance Technician
1. GCSE including Maths & English
2. Engineering Apprenticeship NVQ3 - HNC Diploma
3. 18th Edition Wiring Regulations plus Compex Cert Ex01-06
4. Portable Appliance testing trained
5. 5 yrs mechanical/electrical experience preferably in an environment where hazardous or flammable chemicals are handled
6. Permit to work systems: writing method statements and risk assessments
7. Confined space entry accreditation
8. Good problem solver
9. PC skills - word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook and other applicable applications
10. Ability to work on own initiative
11. Good communication skills both written and verbal
12. Flexible approach to work
13. Team player
