PURPOSE and OBJECTIVES
1. To work with the Circuit Superintendent and the CLT to develop a strategy for mission and ministry within the Circuit’s area – including the development of ‘New Communities’ of worship.
2. To work across the Circuit’s churches, as is practicably possible, taking direction from the Superintendent and CLT on priorities.
3. To promote the place of worship, learning & caring, service and evangelism throughout the Vale of Stour Circuit, as an integral part of "Our Calling" and in pursuance of the Priorities of the Methodist Church.
4. SHINE Church – To facilitate / help organise / find further resources for the Shine Church - as a specific new community already in place in the circuit and which serves families with children with special needs - such that it might continue to prosper.
5. To identify what charitable, governmental or church-led activities already exist to help those in the area and to identify how our church buildings and resources may be able to provide additional support.
6. To work with local churches to discern a mission strategy within their own location and context and to enable the development of appropriate outreach (‘stepping outside the building’).
7. To equip local churches for mission by: helping groups and individuals to overcome apprehensions about evangelism; assisting with the development of a church vision/strategy for mission; working with churches in creative and innovative ways to develop Mission Action Plans.
8. To explore and develop links with ecumenical partners and other agencies to explore how the local church can be involved in developing and delivering new projects.
9. To encourage people in local churches to see things with fresh eyes, bringing a positively constructive and creative critical analysis to bear on the way things are done in church life; challenging the status quo where necessary and encouraging churches to rethink prayerfully and strategically.
10. To inspire and enable people to think of practical ways in which faith can be shared with friends, colleagues, and neighbours, especially those who may be disadvantaged and marginalised.
11. To enable churches to become more ‘mission-centric’, nurturing a culture in which evangelistic outreach and growing new disciples is a priority alongside that of ministering to people in their need.
12. To grow, train and support teams to become self-sustaining in delivering specific projects for the benefit of the local community and church.
13. To communicate the unfolding “mission story” through contributions in worship and other meetings.
14. To enable churches to recognise where the Gospel is lived out by people and communities, even if they do not use the name of God.
15. To attend Sunday Worship each week (and other worship gatherings/ events as appropriate during the week).
16. To demonstrate and encourage commitment to Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EEDI) for new and existing communities.
17. To ensure that the Safeguarding policy, principles and practices of The Methodist Church are followed and promoted in respect of recruiting volunteers, carrying out risk assessments and running activities and events.
18. To attend CLT, Circuit and other relevant meetings (as appropriate), making regular reports regarding activities and outcomes.
19. To undertake appropriate/ relevant training as agreed with Line Management.
20. To fulfil other duties consistent with the role as agreed with Line Management/relevant parties and as time permits.
