Assistant Consultant / Consultant, Heritage and Townscape
Turley Heritage, Townscape and Landscape is growing. Develop your career in the built environment, contributing to and shaping high profile and varied development projects across the UK.
Edinburgh
We have an opportunity for a passionate and ambitious Assistant Consultant / Consultant to join a dynamic and vibrant consultancy practice. Based in Edinburgh, you will join a diverse, friendly and growing team, where you will work on a wide variety of heritage and townscape projects with private and public sector clients. Our work includes urban regeneration, historic estates, sports stadia and net zero projects including solar, wind and battery storage.
In this role you will:
* Undertake comprehensive research and analysis, including site visits, desk-based and archival research.
* Assess the significance of a wide range of heritage assets.
* Contribute to the provision of heritage advice and impact assessment in a planning context.
* Support and work towards leading on a range of projects and proactively assist with the delivery on more major projects.
* Provide clear, succinct and commercial advice to clients.
* Effectively manage your workload with defined responsibility and client contact, from the start.
* Develop your technical skills and grow your presence in our local markets.
* Be part of a dynamic, supportive and well established team.
* Have opportunity to work closely on our townscape and visual impact projects.
* Share skills and experience across disciplines.
About you
You will have a strong academic record (with degree or post graduate qualification in a planning, heritage conservation or other heritage-related subject as a minimum), an enquiring mind, strong communication skills and commercial awareness. You will have sound knowledge of architectural history, experience of promoting or managing change in the historic environment, and ideally familiarity with the planning and development process in Scotland, with knowledge of the English system also desirable.
You will have strong IT skills with a knowledge and experience of using GIS/QGIS desirable. This role involves regular travel for site visits across Scotland, and occasionally in other parts of the UK. Sites vary from urban locations to more remote areas (e.g. wind farms), some of which are not accessible via public transport. For this reason, a full driving licence is normally required. However, we are committed to inclusive recruitment and welcome applications from candidates who are unable to drive, for example, due to disability. If this applies to you, please let us know in your application. We will explore alternative arrangements where possible to support you in meeting the travel requirements of the role.
Your continued personal and professional development and learning will be encouraged and supported. We would also welcome those with membership of the IHBC, the RTPI and / or CIfA, or help to mentor those on the journey to professional accreditation.
