In 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to legislate to have net zero carbon emissions by 2050, meaning we will no longer be a net emitter of greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change. Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) can play an essential role in reaching net zero. It can be an engine to drive cleaner, sustainable growth, transforming our industrial heartlands. It can also unlock new jobs and innovative businesses, raising productivity and competitiveness across the UK. We have successfully designed and run a process to select the first two CCUS clusters and are now evolving our policy design for the next round, to meet targets set out in the Net Zero Strategy. We are looking for an SEO CCUS Projects Assurance Manager to join a technical team of scientists and engineers, who are responsible for assuring CCUS Transport & Storage networks. You will provide technical advice, as well as working with and managing external technical advisors, to provide a robust technical assurance function. Person specification Key responsibilities The successful candidate would have a rare opportunity to gain first-hand experience of delivering the technical and commercial assurance of major CCUS infrastructure projects. This will involve the assessment and analysis of the technical project arrangements, risk registers and associated costs. The breadth of work ranges from technical analysis and statistical modelling to report drafting and stakeholder engagement with our science and engineering counterparts in other governmental bodies and industry. The successful candidate will also work alongside policy colleagues to provide technical input to the new CCUS business models. Skills and experience Essential skills Relevant degree-educated engineer or scientist (e.g. Geologist, Process, Mechanical, Structural engineering), or equivalent experience. Proven ability to assimilate, evaluate and simplify a wide variety of technical project data, both quantitative and qualitative. Ability to exercise judgement, in the absence of complete information, in order to implement solutions. Ability to present and defend analysis to external project developers in a confident and assertive manner. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely to both scientific and non-scientific audiences, internally and externally. Good project management skills with a strong track record of delivery against challenging deadlines and managing competing workloads, as part of multi-disciplinary teams. Desirable skills /experience Experience in project assurance, cost assessment, risk analysis, due diligence, commercial and/or the delivery of major infrastructure projects. Experience in CCUS or oil & gas sectors.
