Southgate Hockey Club, one of the leading hockey clubs in the UK, is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Coach to lead our Women’s 1st Team. Currently competing in National Division One South, the team has its sights firmly set on promotion to the Premier Division.

We are looking for a high-performance hockey coach with a proven track record of success at a competitive level. The ideal candidate will bring the skills, vision, and leadership to inspire a talented squad whilst working collaboratively to advance the long-term goals of the club.
About Southgate Women’s Hockey
Our Women’s section is a vibrant and ambitious part of the club, currently fielding six teams, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams designated as performance sides. Our overarching goals are to:
1. Secure two teams in the National Leagues, ensuring sustained success at the highest levels.
2. Establish our 3rd team as a competitive force in the London Premier League.
3. Build a robust development pathway where young players progress from juniors through the senior ranks to play Premier Division hockey for their home club.
As the 1st Team Coach, you will also play a key role in nurturing and developing young talent, helping us realise our vision of homegrown players succeeding at the elite level.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver two high-quality training sessions per week during the season, including pre-season preparation. The role includes the same commitment throughout the indoor season from November - January.
Develop and implement game strategies to achieve promotion goals.
Lead in the recruitment process, working with the Director of Hockey and Committee to attract and retain high-quality players to strengthen the squad.
Foster a positive, ambitious, and high-performance culture within the squad.
Collaborate closely with the Director of Hockey and support the club committee in aligning the team with Southgate’s values and long-term objectives.
Support the progression of junior players into senior teams, with a particular focus on the development of elite talent.
Provide individual feedback and mentoring to players to drive continuous improvement.
Key Requirements
Proven experience coaching at National League level or equivalent.
Strong understanding of high-performance hockey principles and strategies.
Demonstrated ability to develop and nurture young talent.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a proactive and collaborative mindset.
Level 2 or higher hockey coaching qualification (or equivalent).
Availability to commit to two sessions a week during the regular season, pre-season preparation in August and possibly July, and the indoor hockey programme from November to January.
